Rising phoenix-like from a cultural choke hold of nanny state finger-wagging and colonial privilege comes phile. The dynamic live duo from Sydney debut on their own imprint with a five-tracker balancing confrontational, f'ck y'all attitude with surprising textural nuance and an attention to detail generally lost at these high temperatures. This marks the first release from Deep Seeded Records. Don't be fooled by the distortion and hard angles of 'Found In Blood' or 'Govern This' - the fine print betrays a knowledge of Dozzy-school headfuckery and concrete mise-en-scene. Meanwhile, Karina Utomo's blood boiling vox on 'Abhor' and the unlikely appearance of bass guitar and string quintet on 'Marauder' reveal that Hannah and Gareth (thankfully) have pedigree beyond the often stifled confines of good ol' dance music. Most would place this in the dark category but it's really just a source of strength.
