CEEPHAX
VOLUME 1
REPHLEX
2LP/CD
(MARCH 2007)
After years of frantic and legendary live sets (with the seal of approval from none other than AFX) and a stack of spannered acid techno releases, Ceephax (real name Andy Jenkinson) finally delivers the fractal faced neon opus he's always been capable of.
Ceephax encompasses an old school acid sensibility crossed with the energy and innovation of the famous ‘Universal Indicator’ acid series, plus a melodic and moody experimental side that is revealed in his mellower moments. Following his debut remixes of Squarepusher’s ‘Bioslate’ on Rephlex in 1998, he has released a multitude of EP’s and albums on a variety of labels (Breakin’/Firstcask/WeMe/Bug Klinik/Warp/Lo Recordings etc.).
Obviously saving his best tracks for his favourite label, Rephlex Recordings have the honour of releasing Ceephax Volumes 1 and 2, containing some of the most definitive neo-acid hardcore you are likely to hear this decade. ‘Volume One’ represents his first album since the highly acclaimed ‘Exidy Tours’ in 2003, with a second instalment to follow later in 2007.
With a nod towards yesterday’s heroes from Detroit, Chicago, Holland and Germany, Ceephax pushes the acid sound to the limit, from one end of the sonic spectrum to the other with pummelling technoid pounders, spazzed out breakbeats and other assorted genre-defying experiments.
